Doug Bacon advises CEOs and senior leaders as they navigate consequential questions about their leadership and organizations.
His work is grounded in listening, pattern recognition and the ability to help leaders see and name what may be difficult to recognize from inside the organization.
Doug works alongside CEOs, senior leaders and leadership teams to create clarity around what is changing, what matters most and what leadership needs to look like moving forward.
His work spans industries, with a growing concentration in destination organizations, college athletics and higher education.
Doug founded Throwing Words in 2010 following a career in civic leadership, higher education and organizational development. He earned his bachelor's degree from Rhodes College and is a Gallup-Certified Strengths Coach.
Doug lives in Charlotte, North Carolina, with his wife, Julie. They have two sons, Phelps and Mac.

Julie Zalewa

Doug Bacon and the Throwing Words program could not operate on the level of efficiency and professionalism that business leaders have come to expect without Julie Zalewa. As Project Manager for Throwing Words and Doug’s Executive Assistant, Julie runs a tight ship with an eye for detail and a keen sense of timeliness. Julie received a Bachelor’s degree in Business Management from San Diego State University with a minor in Psychology. For sixteen years this training was helpful in managing a family and volunteering with civic and non-profit organizations. Now, Julie brings the same care to managing Throwing Words that she brings to family and volunteering. Julie is married to Joe and has two grown children and four bonus children. In her down time, Julie enjoys pickleball, traveling, and the theatre.
